Fatal T-Bone Truck Accident in Sugar Land, TX
As confirmed by reporting from ABC 13 Eyewitness News, a catastrophic truck accident happened on the morning of May 27th. The fatal collision was a t-bone crash on the northbound lanes of US-59 Southwest Freeway. The incident reportedly happened near First Colony and Sweetwater Boulevard in Sugar Land. Officers from the Sugar Land Police Department determined a truck collided with a passenger car and the occupant of that car passed away at the scene. Another person was hurt in the crash. The cause was not immediately clear and the deadly crash is still under investigation.
T-Bone Truck Accidents are Extremely Dangerous
T-bone truck accidents—also known as side-impact collisions—occur when the front of one vehicle crashes directly into the side of another, forming a “T” shape. All T-bones are dangerous because vehicles have less protection on the side. Though, these crashes are especially dangerous when a large commercial truck is involved due to the massive size and weight disparity between the truck and a typical passenger vehicle. Being T-boned by a semi-truck puts your safety at serious risk.
When a truck strikes a car broadside—especially at high speeds—the results are often catastrophic: traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, and internal organ injuries are common. Notably, T-bone accidents most occur in intersections—where vehicles are going in opposite directions. Speeding, running red lights, distracted driving, and failure to yield can cause T-bone crashes.
Grieving Families Have a Right to Bring a Civil Wrongful Death Lawsuit in Texas
Texas is a fault-based motor vehicle accident state, including for semi-truck accidents. The trucker or trucking company can be held liable for an accident if their negligence—failure to take proper care—contributed to causing the T-bone wreck. Victims need justice and compensation, including for medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering.
If your family member was killed in a T-bone truck accident—which, sadly, given the size and weight of tractor trailers is a risk—you have the right to hold them legally responsible for the fatal collision through a civil wrongful death claim. A truck accident lawyer with wrongful death experience can help your family navigate the claims process.
